Club Committee
Formerly our Club Captain, Nigel regularly attends club training sessions and has been a member of Pensby Runners since 2006.
He is a keen fell runner competing across North Wales in the main but also the Lakes and further afield with events in the Alps and the infamous Marathon Des Sables.
He is a UK Athletics qualified running coach, Corrective Exercise Specialist (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and trained in the Anatomy in Motion method. He owns the local running store in Heswall, The Runners Hub where members are always welcome to pop in to discuss club business.
Rita has a love/hate relationship with running and currently it is in the love phase. It’s probably because she has become more involved in club activities, such as the very muddy Cross Country races and even though she often comes last, she loves the team camaraderie, and just getting out there and having a go. She managed two marathons, and a parkrun PB in 2023, and plans to do her first ultra (Race To The Stones 50K) in 2024.
On top of actually running, she loves writing about running, keeping a regular blog at theleadlesspencil.org.
Rob started running round the block in 2012, to achieve a bit of peace following the birth of his second child. He did his first 5K (seaside run) a year later, before discovering parkrun in 2014 and joining Pensby 2016. Being in the club has provided a wealth of running opportunities, such as a London Marathon place and access to multi-terrain and cross-country events, as well as advice and coaching.
He is the club Cross Country Captain and Membership Secretary, so if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to chat about either.
Lisa has been a keen runner since 2010. She enjoys all types of running terrain, but mostly trail and fell. Lisa has also dabbled with triathlon and sportives. She is happy to reach out to new members and welcome them to the club. Lisa’s greatest running achievement was completing her first marathon, as it was by far the most challenging!
Dave has been running for a number of years, but joined the club in 2009 as he was fed up of running on his own and wanted to get into mountain/fell racing. David mainly enjoys running in anything which involves hills over a range of distances, from local fell races in North Wales to ultramarathons. His first marathon was the Everest Marathon in 2011, with a number similar and longer since. David is also a keen skier, recently taking part in a cross country ski marathon in Italy.
Kate runs for fun and dabbles in cross country, multi terrain, and road running. She has been a member of the club since 2019 and enjoys a mix of social club runs, parkrun, and other local races.
Colin joined Pensby Runners in 2007 in preparation for the New York Marathon. Certainly not a dream of a 14 year old who hated running and cross country with a passion. But when he started playing rugby, he wanted to get fitter and started running to achieve this. Since then, he has completed 9 marathons, countless half marathons and The Tour of Merseyside (six races in a week totalling 52 miles) 7 times! Plus a few triathlons, completing a half ironman in 2022! He even represents the club in cross country and Border league races.
“We all start this journey somewhere, but where it leads to who knows” is probably the best way to explain his running experiences!
Having always enjoyed the outdoors and run casually to stay fit, in 2015 Neil tried out a fell race and the rest, as they say, is history. A member of Pensby Runners since 2019, he coordinates the club’s fell running activities and is keen to open the sport up to new participants.
Often found plodding around the hills somewhere in Wales, Neil loves all types of running from short fast races to ultras and has even been spotted at road and cross-country events! His favourite race is Man versus Horse, and his proudest running achievement is completing the George Fisher Tea Round in the Lake District.
Eddie has been a club member for a number of years, running socially and competing in anything from a road 5k to a mountain marathon.
Most of his running is on the roads where’s there’s a really strong camaraderie and always someone willing to join in for a session, but given half a chance he’ll be in the North Wales or the Lake District taking in the bigger hills.
He’s passionate about health and wellbeing and a really strong advocate of keeping active and being outdoors. He plays a number of sports but the accessibility of running and the immediate ‘feel good’ factor has always been an attraction of running for him.
Jeff has been a member of the club since 2011. He likes all types of running, preferring off-road, especially fell running.
He regularly competes in races, with his favourites being Yorkshire Three Peaks, Snowdon International and Excalibur; in his younger days he completed a sub-24hr Bob Graham Round.
Jeff is a UK Athletics qualified running coach and organises beginners’ Couch to 5K and Couch to 10K running programmes at the club.
In his day job, Jeff is Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Chester where he co-directs a research centre into creativity in education.
Becky has been an eager runner for over 10 years, but became a true convert to the sport when she joined Pensby Runners in 2019.
Having recently fallen in love with fell running, she prefers anything off-road and cross-country and regularly competes in these races and leagues within the club.
When she’s not running, you can find her growing flowers and vegetables in her garden.
Susan has been a keen runner for 20 years, mainly as a triathlete. She loves the freedom and mental
space that running brings as well as the camaraderie of the club.
As a triathlete she has competed in every distance from sprint up to full Ironman. She has represented
Great Britain on a number of occasions as an age group athlete, travelling around Europe to race.
Getting older and slower has encouraged her to enjoy the experience of running rather than
focusing on performance. She has recently enjoyed being part of the club’s cross country team.
As club Welfare Lead, Susan is committed to ensuring that Pensby Runners remains the safe, friendly
and inclusive club we all love. Please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
