Clwydian Hills Fell Race

Clwydian Hills Fell Race https://www.clwydianfellrace.org/

The next race is on Sunday 21st October 2018.

  • Registration at Cilcain Village Hall, race start allow 5-10 mins walk (to waterworks)
  • Grid ref: SJ 177 653 , SatNav postcode CH7 5NN
  • Registration from 9.30 until 10.30am for 11am race start
  • Main race (Over 18) £6 entry fee – online or on day
  • Junior race (Over 14) £2 entry fee – online or on day
  • ONLINE ENTRIES OPEN JULY/AUG’ish

Getting to Cilcain: Village Hall postcode is CH7 5NN. The final couple of miles to the village is on narrow roads except the road in from the A541 so allow a little extra time and drive safely. The best road into the village comes off the Mold-Denbigh A541 – which at least has white lines!

Parking: Where possible please car share as the parking around the village is not great (and we usually have both church & chapel services happening at the same time). Please see the below map for parking areas:

The main area to avoid is around the registration (Village Hall) and areas around both the Chapel & Churches as both have services that morning. Please park respectful of the residents – don’t block gates, driveways, junctions, etc. There is good parking at the viewpoint parking above the village (left of map), further down the main road (Ffordd-Y-Llan) beyond the school and up Lon Cilan along with a few spaces down past Pentre Cilcain on the road into the village.

Registration: 9.00-10.30am. Please allow plenty of time to register and read the safety information. Online entries just go straight to pre-registeed desk. Safety pins are available for small donation.

Kit Dump: There is ample space to leave bags, car keys, etc. in the village hall which will be fully staffed whilst you are out on the fells.

Kit Requirements: See attached Race Info sheet for more detail. The weather can be grim on the fells during October and although it has been kind for a number of years you should prepare for the worst. As a Category A race (Hard) it is mandatory to CARRY:

  • Windproof full body cover
  • Map (these will be available at registration, or you can print out from the website, or attached to pre-reg email)
  • (A limited supply of waterproof film maps available for a small charge of £1)
  • Compass
  • Whistle
  • Sufficient food & drink to finish the race

If the weather is poor you will be told to carry the following also:

  • Waterproof full body cover
  • Hat
  • Gloves

Race Brief: 10.50am Will be at the Race Start down by the waterworks which are a 5-10 minute walk from the village hall past the Church. Ask for directions if you are not sure.

Race Start: 11am No late entries. Once the sweep team has left you will be marked DNS if you are not there on time.

After Race: Refreshments are available after the race (soup & roll, tea/coffee/juices, cakes) for free (just show your race number). Also on arrival back in the hall there will be souvenir coaster for you – again show your race number. The prize giving is pencilled in for 2pm but usually slips a little.

Race Timing: We will have (close to) live results available in the Village Hall after you have finished. Please do not distract the folks sat at PC’s as this delays the prize giving, etc. All queries should be directed to the RO who will follow up any issues.

Last Minute Shopping:  The Community Shop operates out of the back room of the village hall and has a selection of snacks etc available until midday on the Sunday. We will usually have the kettle on in the Village Hall sometime during the morning but don’t count on it – and it will only be Makro’s Value Instant at best.
