What is Excalibur? Excalibur 2016 is the fifth annual off-road event organised by Claire House Children’s Hospice and is taking place on Saturday 21 May 2016. The event was conceived as a unique and demanding off-road race that would offer participants a tough and extreme challenge, while experiencing the beauty and spectacular views of the Clwydian Range of North Wales. In 2016, a new 10K route is being added….

Excalibur can be ran or walked, and there are three routes – marathon, half marathon and 10K. The start and finish area, as well as parking, will be in the same location as 2015 – Bwlah Penbarras.

How do you get there? To get to Bwlch Penbarras, leave the A494 between Mold and Ruthin for Tafarn Y Gelyn and follow the signs for Moel Famau. The carpark and start/finish area is clearly visible on this road, located  in the shadow of Moel Famau, the highest peak within the Clwydian Range. You can use the Grid Reference Bwlch Penbarras SJ16196063.

What time does it start? All participants will be sent their event packs, which will include running numbers and event information, in the weeks leading up to the event, so all you will have to do on the day is register and have your kit checked. You must allow time for your registration and kit check before setting off. Please see the kit list. All walkers, despite the distance, will need to be on site at 7.30am, to start Excalibur at 8.30am. All runners, despite the distance, will need to be on site at 9.00am, to start Excalibur at 10.00am. Please note, runners and walkers MUST obey their start times.

Can you only enter online? Yes, you can only enter Excalibur by signing up through this website. Also, registration closes at midnight on Sunday 15th May 2016 and there is no entry on the day.

What do you get for the registration fee? You get to take part in one of the toughest and most scenic off-road events in Britain. As part of your registration fee, you will also receive a technical t-shirt, food and water on the route at the several check-points, and hot stew at the end. There are also prizes for the winning runners of the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K! You will also have a fantastic feeling of awesomeness upon completion of Excalibur!

What happens next? After you register for Excalibur, you will receive an email confirmation. You will also receive information and support from Claire House Children’s Hospice, as well as your event pack, which will be posted out to you in the weeks leading up to the event.
