Hilbre Island Run (and Swim)

Club’s annual trip to Hilbre Island

Hilbre Island Run – Sunday 21 June

What does it involve?
· Run out to Hilbre Island at low tide – choice of distances for the outward leg: 5, 3 or 2 miles.
· An optional swim
· Run 2 miles back to West Kirby (all using the same route)
· A post-run gathering and optional Fish and Chips (from Marigold’s) in Sandlea Gardens, West Kirby.
Run schedule (and indeed the date!) are governed by the time of the low tide  – approximately 11:20am on Sunday 21 June.
Registration
So that we know everyone has returned safely, there will be a registration at the start, so  runners can be logged out. And then runners must check back in again at the end. We need to know that everyone has returned safely. I will tail run the return leg back from Hilbre.
If you are intending to participate, please reply, send me a message, or email me with the names of you, and your family members if they’d like to join us.

Meeting time
Timings are governed by the low tide (11:20am) so, we need to meet at 10:15am and start running from West Kirby promptly at 10:30am. We will regroup on Hilbre island at about11:15am. After a quick swim, we’ll leave the island at approximately 11:45am, to complete the 2 mile run back to West Kirby, to collect food from Marigolds, which opens at midday.

Meeting place
We will all be starting from point number 1 on the diagram below. This is the Wirral Watersport Centre car park, near to the start of the Marine Lake walkway, at the Morrisons end of the Marine Lake.
Here is a diagram of the recommended safe route, for all three distances, to and from the main Hilbre Island via The Little Eye, avoiding mud and quicksand:
May be an image of map and text that says 'HILBRE ISLAND Red Rocks 3 Little Hilbre To Hoylake Little Eye 2 Approved Route A540 1 Marine Lake West Kirby To Heswall'

The swim (or just a dip)
We enter the water using the slope next to the disused lifeboat station at the far end of Hilbre Island. There is sand and broken shells underfoot but the beach shelves gently. Please ensure you are a competent swimmer, and are used to open sea swimming.
Post swim, there are no changing facilities. Most simply leave their wet kit on and dry off in the breeze during the run back to West Kirby.
After the optional dip/swim, we’ll leave the island at around to complete the 2-mile run back to West Kirby.
Everyone must find their own way back by retracing the outward route via the Little Eye.
Please remember to sign back in on your return.

What happens following the run, and after signing back in, in West Kirby?
After the returning from Hilbre, we can meet in Sandlea Gardens, accessed via the road called, “Sandlea Park” opposite the side of Morrison’s supermarket in Dee Lane.
Fish and Chips – Please contact Claudia – what app on 07809 735 716-  with your orders for Marigolds. The full menu is on the Marigold’s web site..
The weather forecast is ok for Sunday, not exactly cracking the flags but hopefully warm enough for a dip.
See you Sunday. Any questions just ask.
